Julie Ali 2 mins · The Irish Times · While I do not have a problem with modification of an embryo if it's not designed to create super babies, I disagree with this article's premise that an embryo is not a human being. An embryo is a human being. It's a preliminary stage of a human being but it has all the potentialities for a human being. The only way that the embryo could not be considered a human being is for the sperm not to meet the egg. Folks can designate the fertilised egg and the subsequent zygote development how they wish; this is their opinion. In my opinion, there is a baby there and this is why it hurts so badly to have a miscarriage or the loss of a baby.

Julie Ali I don't agree with this article. In my opinion, there is a baby there; why else do we grieve over the loss of this baby in a miscarriage? I think there are fashions in ethical thought and this is one fashionable take on the developing baby in the womb.
