From toilet paper to global unrest---families all over the world are in ferment about the care of seniors and handicapped people in the care of their governments. Whatcha all going to do about it? Speak out? Write about it to your government representatives. Fire them if they don't make improvements. I am hoping this is what will happen in Alberta and in Ontario where change in continuing care is a joke.

MANOIR NOTRE-DAME -VALMOND ROBICHAUD
Ok, I rarely rant on Facebook and I know I will regret this tomorrow but I am so mad and disgusted that I cannot help myself. My mother in law lives at the Manoir Notre Dame in Moncton. She pays over $2,500 per month for the smallest room they have available, she is on a fixed income like many seniors and is left with only limited funds at the end of the month. Today, she called because she was out of toilet paper and Kleenex and needed to use the facilities. She asked one of the staff members for a roll of toilet paper and was told that they were no longer allowed to give out toilet paper.....imagine that! So, off to the store we went to buy her some toilet paper. I went to see the working supervisor who confirmed that the residents received a letter stating that they would only be receiving two rolls of paper each Monday (see letter attached). The owner is Valmont Robichaud....there are more than 100 residents in the home without toilet paper....and Valmont Robichaud is getting a minimum of 2.8 million dollars of rent per year. Buying toilet paper for my mother in law is not a big deal but there are so many seniors in that home who do not have family or friends to take care of them. I'm appalled and we will be looking for a new place for her to live! Please, if you know someone who lives there, advise their family or someone who can help. This is absolute bullshit! Please make this go viral -the staff there have their hands tied...it's hard for them too to be so cruel to seniors.

Deborah Hemens This is absolutely unacceptable and should be reported immediately to whatever government agency oversees private senior residences with the documentation that you have posted.

There are minimum care baselines that even private homes must abide by.

Cheryl Spek This haopens in pretty much aall homes. The seniors in Perth Abdover have to buy their meds as well as most everythung else. I think if they stayed in their own home they would be better off. They are paying an outrageous price and getting nothing. They may as well pay someone to live in their home with them . As a senior I am able to live on my own but I know sometime down the road I will need help. I dread the thought of going in a seniors home. Guess I'll start stocking up on toilet paper, kleenex and other things I'll need. I figure by the time I get there I will have to buy my food for them to cook. Its a shame that senior's are treated so terrible by cimpanies or people who look after them. All that matters to bug companies is the almighty dollar.

Julie Ali I agree that staying at home is best. But then you need a community of care at home. Home care in Alberta is useless. Family is the only way. But how many of us can do this work over years? It has to be a cooperative matter between families. And even then when care needs are too great they have to be in residential care as my handicapped sister is. But the difference is now I go check on her and I get a data card down load to check on the respiratory care. I no longer think it is possible to leave family members in facilities without weekly visits. Best way to do this if you can is to take the family member home for visits twice a week to check on them and give them an outing.

Some people are selfish b....rds the more they get the more they want. I wonder do he treat his parents that way.

Most of theses seniors worked very hard in difficult times to care for their families, why can't the gov't do the same for them.? This should get brought to the attention of your MLA. Premier and Prime Minister. SHAMEFUL.

Julie Ali Your mother in law is fortunate to have family to advocate for her. Imagine how it is for residents without family. Also please be aware that in Alberta the Trespass to Premises legislation is used by the health authority -AHS and Covenant Health a contracted provider of AHS plus the continuing care providers if advocates become too yappy about problems. What happens is that family who yap in public get banned using this legislation. The Government of Alberta is complicit in the silencing of families in this way. The Tucker family in Alberta is the most recent use of the legislation and the only way the mum could see the dad was to get the mum out to the Grande Prairie hospital. The continuing care system has problems that the public does not know about because of retribution of this sort. https://www.facebook.com/stephen.tucker.334 Stephen Tucker added 4 new photos — with Tammilee Rideout-Tucker.

PLEASE SHARE!!!! It breaks by heart to have my mom in a emergency room bed were at least dad can now visit her . A care home in grande prairie has abused my mom for the last time . We are now taking up space in an emergency room while awaiting for a doctor to help us find a spot . The care home today slammed the door in my face as I tried to talk to them. As I had to remove mom s belongings out of there so the abuse can't continue. Dad fought with them for years with documentation and pics plenty of proof to put them under . But everyone turns a blind eye to the abuse and call it un founded . The judge without any looking at foundings or proof just say your banned and any further cost comes to dad? How does a retirement man pay for lawyer fees. I want this banning my dad from the care home for a full year without visiting rights to go viral . He has legal guardianship to be her voice from a court but means nothing . How does the justice system work ? She cannot speak for herself . Please share the shit outta this . Media here I come

Julie Ali Earlene Hart Indeed it is. But I have to say I can't blame them too much. It's hard to deal with the care organization, AHS and then Alberta Health. The bureaucratic and political expediency decision making is very efficient at moving families forwards. Then there is the legal problems. If you yap be aware that the risk management process of all is to sue you. Be prepared for years of financial and family stress when they do sue you. After it is all over and you are punished for daring to do the right thing, still keep speaking. It's the right thing to do. These are the most defenceless human beings in Alberta. Why the heck should we stay silent? Speak out folks. Then vote out the MLAs who do not help us.
