so that you might see / first the tenderness of blossom

I will make a poem
like an apple on a tree

I will hold it firmly
so that you might see

first the tenderness of blossom
that rushes into fruit

the burst of pink upon it
the work of leaf and root

I will give it to you
as Eve did at the first

and you will quench your hunger
and you will sate your thirst

of course if you wish for substantive
you must seek the meats

in the work of other poets
I am into lesser feats

the dogma of our ages
is that perfection is the height

of all the work we do
but this maybe not quite right

a poem can be saddled
by a novice who decides and makes

and ridden on the prairie
courage is all it takes
