One week after the 1st Pride flag was stolen in Taber, the 2nd one has been burned.
UPDATE: Official statement from Taber Equality Alliance:
We will gather once again on Monday, June 26th, to raise the LGBT pride flag in Taber. (Time: 5:30pm)
This will be the third pride flag raising in Taber since June 12th. The first flag was stolen early Monday June 19th. With heavy hearts, we learned today (June 25th) that the second flag had been burned on the flagpole early this morning.
Fortunately, the fire did not spread to the surrounding trees, or the gazebo.
We are still here. Our hearts are strong. This is not a deterrent, but a call to love.
What has been done to our flags spotlights the persistent and consistent oppression of LGBTQ people. If you have not experienced mistreatment because of who you love, or how you identify, then please consider yourself fortunate. Do not look away from what has happened in Taber. Twice. In 2017.
We will continue to show up, live openly, and love with whole hearts. We have tremendous love and courage, and we are still convinced that love will triumph.
We invite all our allies and friends and neighbours to attend on Monday, and stand with us in solidarity. We are proud to once again raise the flag in Taber.
May you find love today.

Julie Ali What a gutsy bunch of folks to raise a flag when they are being stolen and burnt. I applaud your courage. And your willingness to be change makers. The LGBTQ community should be respected. The only way that homophobia will end is for all of us to speak out against it and support the people who are being discriminated against.

Lindsay Sigurdson Anyone know what time the flag raising is?

Melissa Villeneuve On their Facebook page it says they are thinking 5pm, but they said they have to confirm with town administrators.

Judy Sept Hope, pray no one will do anything bad, or have someone sit by it?
Lethbridge Herald Now I see a reply that it will be at 5:30pm.

Karen Horne-Bader I believe everyone, no matter how they live or with whom deserve to be treated as human beings. If they are not harming you in any way, what is your problem.

Brooke Ully Sadly people that pull stunts like this don't realize that it shows that pride week is still really need and they are the reason why. They also bring the subject into focus and highlight discussions. It also helps band the community and supports even more. So kind of a hate fail. Keep trying to destroy a community and it will only make them stronger.

Tammy Punton I am from Winnipeg and I couldn't believe this happened in your community. Whoever did this should be ashamed of themselves. I thought that adults would act better than this. Time to grow up and embrace the changes happening in our world. To to town of Lethbridge, raise that flag and stand beside the LGBT and be proud!!!!

Julie Ali Sadly there are few folks in Alberta who don't believe in the human rights of all of us. Best thing to do when this junk happens is expose it and social media is excellent at exposing homophobia.#SocialMediaChangesEverything.

Emma Fitzgerald To the two people who made the laughing emoji to this, I hope you have a child who is LGBT+ so then maybe, just maybe, you can understand the struggle of those living with differences that the world tries so hard to persecute them for.

Julie Ali I hope they never have a child who is LGBTQ because they would not be good parents for such a child.

Lois Kathleen Punton I am so sorry this has happened. Again. You have supporters and allies everywhere. Love wins out every time someone chooses to do the right thing.

Darrel Wierenga Not oppression, just showing a minority more favor than the whole community.

Carolyn Hofer Oh yes.... the do some research comment when someone has an opinion that doesn't fall in line. It's getting really old
Lindsay Porter It's not that it doesn't fall in line, it's that it's untruth. Thus leading to a need to discover truth. Are you tired of being called out for being ignorant? Easy fix, don't be ignorant.
