My favourite activist is Ruth Adria of the Elder Advocates of Alberta Society. Despite decades of marginalization, retribution and dismissal this activist has persisted in her work which is to speak for the most defenceless, vulnerable citizens in Alberta--the seniors in the continuing care system, the mentally ill and the disabled. Her work over decades is the epitome of service to our nation for she is not only known in Alberta but throughout Canada for not backing down with reference to seniors' rights. It's the tragedy of our times that the very old, the very disabled and those who cannot speak for themselves are considered second class citizens that are subject to do not resuscitate orders and euthanasia challenges. It's the most amazing experience to find one human being such as Ruth Adria who has sacrificed a comfortable life to do the right thing despite the personal costs. She is someone who we can all emulate and follow. #FollowingRuthAdria The work of the Elder Advocates of Alberta Society can be found here: http://elderadvocates.ca/
