Concerns regarding the Child Intervention Ministerial Panel have been brought forward in the Legislature numerous times by the PC Caucus. Panelists are forbidden from discussing Serenity’s case, which would provide critical information and insight into fixing systemic problems with Alberta’s child intervention system.

Imagine my astonishment to note that the PCs who kept the deaths of over 700 kids in the child welfare system from the public --are now yapping about transparency and a public inquiry into the death of Serenity.

While they are quite right to demand such a public inquiry I am curious why only their demotion to the leftover sections of the opposition party has improved the quality of their performance as political hires. Surely they could have been more transparent and helpful to the citizens when they were able to do anything about this junk?
But nope, we have to fire them all for the most part to get any sort of job performance from the PCs. Then having realized they have pissed us off, they give us this spin about the problems in the child welfare system that are due to the NDPCs. Which right now I guess it is. The spin in this case is that the NDPCs are doing what the PCs did but this is unacceptable because the NDPCs aren't the PCs. Only the PCs apparently are allowed to play political games that hides the incompetence of all concerned in government and associated bodies who flubbed the case of Serenity.
There are now over 800 dead kids in the system. Velvet Martin at Protecting Canadian Children has asked for a criminal investigation into this junk. God knows this will never happen as incompetence in government only results in pay increases and a pension plan when you are fired by the electorate.
We have a poor situation in the child welfare system that is a mirror image of the poor situation in the continuing care system but everyone is too busy wasting money on the players in the system such as Pure North Foundation folks and the orphan well program to get down to solving the problems.

Public inquiry required to get justice for Serenity

5/17/2017
Edmonton – The Progressive Conservatives continue to call on the NDP to launch a public inquiry into the death of Serenity, who was sexually assaulted and abused while in government care leading to her death in 2014.
“What happened to little Serenity was unspeakable and we demand justice,” said Ric McIver, Progressive Conservative Caucus Leader and MLA for Calgary-Hays. “To ensure this never happens to another child in Alberta again, we must stop this culture of secrecy and begin a public inquiry. We have been hearing conflicting reports from this government and it’s time to set the record straight – from the abuse Serenity suffered while in care to the botched medical examiner’s report and criminal investigation.”
“When I learned that nobody from this government reached out to Serenity’s family during this terrible ordeal, I was shocked,” said Mike Ellis, MLA for Calgary-West and PC Caucus Justice Critic. “This family has been kept in the dark about their 4-year-old’s death, and they only ask for reassurance that this will never happen to another family. The Ministerial Panel risks failing vulnerable children without critical information from the Minister, but Serenity’s family is not giving up. They have asked me to continue to pressure this government for a public inquiry and to legislate Serenity’s Law, so we can begin saving lives today.”

Besides this chatter what value are we getting for our money? What are the deliverables?

Julie Ali Amazing how the PCs can demand this when they didn't do a public inquiry into the deaths of over 700 kids and instead actively retained the information from the public. The hypocrisy of the PCs is only equalled by the hypocrisy of the NDPCs who are following the same political game plan of the Tories. Really nothing changes in Alberta except the spin quality. The spin quality is now a tad more interesting possibly because the NDPCs have hired the journalists to print this verbiage of no worth.
