-#SusieSunshineShouldBeShelved.-------Julie Ali Just now · CBC News · While Senator Lynn Beyak has the right to say whatever she wants to say she is also on a committee dealing with aboriginal peoples and she goes on the record to say that the residential schools were a good thing in some cases? In what way were these schools a good thing? They appear to have been places of harm, abuse and suffering. Sure they may have done the job of "taking the Indian" out of the First Nations people but was this a good thing? The senator appears poorly informed and rather silly. I don't know why we have to have Senators like this one on the public payroll and then have to have them air their ignorance to the detriment of aboriginal peoples. Maybe the Senator needs to go beyond yapping with her First Nations social buddies and get down to the nitty gritty of the history of the residential schools which appear to be one of systematic assimilation for no other purpose than to destroy the First Nations peoples of Canada in all the ways possible--cultural genocide, destruction of families and communities. The residues of this horror lasts to this very day.
