Sue Armstrong We were just told our son will wait up to a year for much needed spine surgery. The waits may have shortened in some areas, but definitely not for this. Folks should not be waiting such long periods for surgery. Like · Reply · 3 mins

About 91 per cent of Albertans with fractured hips had them repaired within 48 hours last year, up from 80 per cent four years earlier.
The percentage of Albertans receiving surgery for fractured hips within the desired wait time has grown since 2012, but the proportion receiving cataract surgery on…

Susan Swann "82 per cent of hip replacements done within 182 days (84 per cent)"
But Wait!
That must be 182 days AFTER you have waited 120 to 150 days to be assessed by the clinic.

So the actual wait time from GP referral (and they have to have supporting x-rays to prove your joint is shot, so the assessment is NOT to determine whether or not the surgery needs to be done, but rather where you fall in the priority list) is closer to an optimistic 302 days - realistically closer to a year.
Seems most of the health care dollars go into supporting the process heavy bureaucracy rather than patient care.

Julie Ali These delays in providing essential surgeries are unacceptable. I suggest folks go to the Health Minister, the Premier and then the Press. It is ridiculous that we have billions of dollars to pay for decommissioning of coal fired plants for no reason when they were already being phased out but we can't relieve the pain and suffering of citizens. Why is the so called people's party ignoring us? Is it a matter of using us to get to power and then buttering us up just before the next election only? This is kind of what we experienced with the Tories isn't it?

Linda Feland-Swityk I just had my consult for cataracts. I waited about 4 months. No big deal. Having my surgery July and August. Could have been sooner but I chose the dates for my convenience. I also have one of the best surgeons who is very busy and I got no special treatment.

Julie Ali Linda Feland-Swityk Glad to hear you got surgery on your schedule; many other folks do not get knee and hip surgery for ages and have to live with pain.
