Julie Ali shared a memory. Just now · The death by doctor business is a way for government to decrease costs of caring for citizens. The process is regulated but of course you do have some problems as noted in Quebec. While this termination business is regulated and everyone is engaged in yapping about it -no one speaks about the incredible power of doctors to prematurely terminate citizens without any sort of oversight that I can determine. Why are there specific protections for citizens with mental health conditions from accessing the death by doctor option but no sort of protections for these same citizens with reference to the DNR (Do not Resucitate) business? In my handicapped sister's medical file I am reading about doctors at the Grey Nuns Hospitals explaining to their colleagues at the University of Alberta Hospital the reasons for their "Do not intubate" , "Do not resuscitate" and "No ICU"orders. Apparently they believe that a patient without insight and with sky high carbon dioxide levels is able to give informed consent to a no intubation request. Really? Surely you jest? But this is the stuff I am reading. You have to read this junk in the medical files of handicapped citizens to see the behind the scenes coordination of refusal to provide services to citizens. You have to see the data -documented page after page of failures of the Grey Nuns Hospital doctors to follow the requirements of the personal directive that asks for full resuscitation and go on their merry way for years while health ministers that I approached fiddled. Yup. This is the way it is. Death by doctor has legislation protection for the mentally ill and those without insight. DNR orders have no protections built in and doctors will support each other to do the dirty deed.

Who will decide on death for our most vulnerable citizens? They already seem to do such decisions for our family members without our consent. My feeling is that doctor assisted death simply legitimises and legalizes the doctor death syndrome.
