Fourth step. Tape every conversation with the GOA and the public bodies. You have the right to do this. These folks are paid by us. The tape is a record of what everyone said and protects all at these meetings. Don't listen to their baloney of taping is not allowed. Tape. Fifth step. Don't let the lawsuit take the place of your real life. Be happy. Take care of family. Trust in yourself. The lawsuit is a disagreement and a miscommunication between parties that had not been dealt with appropriately and will be resolved by the judge in one way or another. You can't do anything about this. Sixth. Publish the failures of the government of Alberta to help families so that we are stuck in these situations. Expose the findings of medical files where the folks at the health authority are going to the Public Guardian and their own legal teams to force their idea of care and placement on your family member. Stand up for your family member. Don't be fooled by the baloney of the professionals. Listen to everyone but make your own decisions based on the status of your own family member. Just who the hell are all these professionals to make life and death decisions about our family members unilaterally and with such disrespect? They are all EMPLOYEES. Our employees. And when you are done the lawsuit, keep going. Keep speaking. Keep working. Don't give up. Be relentless. Because with government--remember--they don't work for us. They work for themselves.

Early morning. Snow dust everywhere. The pale sky like an egg shell. Drops of blood of the geranium blooms. Song in the background. The world as it is just shaking off sleep, yawning and rolling over in the bed of the land.
I could go back to sleep but there is the lawsuit prep to do. It's been very educational and once I earn my PhD in learning about how to go to court and defend myself with the medical file I will publish the path so that families who are sued by the continuing care industry for their public speech will know what to do.
First of all get a lawyer.
Second step is to get the medical files, audits and doctor files.
I have problems with the audits as you all know. I don't have the Alberta Health Quality audit of 2014 or the AHS Quality Review of 2014. I don't have the Good Samaritan Society independent Consultant report on respiratory services at the Good Samaritan Extended Care at Millwoods. I also don't have any audits for the other facilities run by the Good Samaritan Society if there are any. Such audits would be useful in determining the history of the society.
Third step is to ask doctors for medical files. I am stuck here.
I think doctors don't expect requests for their work and so are reluctant to hand them over to patients and their families. This is curious to me. If their work is up to the standards of care why would there be any problems releasing these files? In any case I have to be patient and wait for months and years for the data I don't have.
When I go to court, I will speak about how I went to the GOA and was ignored for months. I will speak about meetings with the Good Samaritan Society managers and AHS staff.
I will go onto speak about the meetings with AHS staff, Covenant Health and nearly everyone else such as the lower level Alberta Health staff. I no longer rely on notes and memory. I have taped some of the GOA meetings.

#GoodSamaritanSocietyLawsuit-- A lawsuit --like every other event of a life is an opportunity.
But if you prepare for the opportunity this helps.
As I learn how to defend myself in court, I will publish the map I am constructing so other families who are sued by the continuing care industry in Alberta will know what to do.
Believe in yourself when you are sued and do not give up.
You have the right to public discourse about the care of family members in the system who are being harmed. Don't expect the government of Alberta to help you. The GOA, the folks at AHS and Covenant Health are partners with each other and the continuing care industry.
What about us?
We just pay for the whole set up and are to be silenced when we speak.
It's the problem of the united front but what happens when families unite and don't stop asking for change?
What happens then?
I guess we will find out as more and more families write their stories out for the world to review and decide for themselves on representation, performance and oversight in the continuing care industry in Alberta.
