Annetia Wesner Yes, and they had plenty of time for all those endless meetings about Rogers Arena, never saw such a big building go up so fast! It's the only priority they have and only in an election year do the regular Joes and Janes get some assistance. In an election year we get the sand boxes returned to our communities.

Julie Ali I like that folks are talking about taking action. A simple way to take action is to write to the councillors and get them to do stuff. The whole point of hiring councillors is to get them to do stuff that needs doing. For example why is it that the city of Edmonton has that hole in the ground Katz Arena when we could have put the money into helping the homeless? Why is it we have these tall tall buildings as priority for the city while ordinary citizens have a crummy LRT system? Why didn't the city of Edmonton put their efforts into a more expensive but better LRT system? I guess because rich people are more important then poor or average Joe/Jane citizen using the LRT. Why is it that we have farmland being used up for no good reason? Why do we have no one interested in the problems of the poor? Why is it that city council isn't about the people but about the rich developers? Why? Why? Why? It is because the citizens don't hold them accountable for their behaviour and when we try we get told that we should stop bothering the politicians. I mean why do we have the city folks telling some citizens not to bug them? This is not my idea of democracy. We are the ones paying and we are the ones hiring. In other words, we aren't the ones to be told to beat it. But there you go. When folks are in power they tend to think of ordinary citizens as bothersome flies. It's only when the flies vote are we important.

Annetia Wesner Yup. All the time and effort and money re. Rogers was interesting and metro line wait times for traffic and pedestrians still sucks. I live in kingsway area and done with waiting at lights constantly. Cant afford monorail above traffic? Then either change the route or dont build there at all.

Julie Ali Annetia Wesner We're not important. The councillors are here not to serve us -the ordinary citizens but to serve the rich men in the development sector. What politics is about is self interest. Just look at the progression of political offices in some case--school board--to councillor to next position. Or councillor to federal politics. Or school board to MLA. The school board position is basically to learn how to be a politician with the added benefit of getting advanced education degrees for free. It's all about self service in politics. We only count as votes for the self service path.

Julie Ali While it is nice that the city of Edmonton is doing such conversations it might be more useful for them to be helping the homeless folks downtown. These folks are without any sort of help that I can detect.

Ania Sleczkowska It is a good start to ask question, but if we do not have follow up action, it is just a words and those in need feel more helpless. Lets each of us , each day, ask this question to neighbour, staying home all winter because of fragile health, perhaps shared meal with person in need or just give what you are able to person asking for your support. Empathy without action, just makes us feel better about ourselves so lets be compassionate and altruistic…it is time!

Julie Ali I agree with you. Real action needs to be taken. It's hard to go beyond words to action but if we don't do this business, it is all baloney.
