relentless-------- but Ruth has been through this before

and take your voice and speak
ask good questions
and don't wait for success
instead fail every day
and leave a trail of broken projects

and take your voice and speak
what one of us can do    all of us can attempt
take the mentors who are suffering
and learn from them   the courage that is required
to be relentless

and take your voice and speak
hold government accountable
tell them that we are the employers
and we speak clearly
we want deliverables    and not the chatter of politics

and take your voice and speak
calmly and for decades
as Ruth Adria has done
with her will and determination
we stand with her and say     we model ourselves on her example

and take your voice and speak
despite retribution
banning   evictions   and legal intimidation
we know them all    but Ruth has been through this before
and we understand how to stand firm       we are her descendants

2016 Human Rights Awards Nominations Your response has been recorded.---------I have nominated Ruth Adria. Ruth Adria has worked ceaselessly to champion the rights of the most powerless, vulnerable citizens in Alberta. Without her documentation of rights and care abuses of these at risk citizens in the continuing care and health care system there would be very few public records available to citizens to comprehend the history of neglect, abuse and fatality in the system. In addition to documenting elder abuse cases, Ruth has advocated for mentally ill citizens who represent the most denigrated sector of our society. The mentally ill citizens of Alberta are subject to many ills such as inferior mental health services, poor ongoing supports and services and truncated life cycles due to homelessness, comorbidities with physical illnesses that shorten their lives as well as the loss of family support. Without advocates like Ruth Adria such citizens would be throwaway citizens of Alberta. I feel that Ruth Adria has not been recognized for her work by the government of Alberta precisely because she has worked for the underdogs of our society. Other citizens get awards and recognition but our best advocate for the elderly in our society is ignored. I feel that she deserves not only recognition for her tireless, unpaid work that she does by herself or with the occasional help of other Elder Advocates of Alberta Society members but also our thanks. A record of Ruth Adria's contributions are listed on the documents on her website and the many articles available about her work.http://elderadvocates.ca/ Ruth has never been afraid to speak for the least among us. While the rest of stay silent out of fear and cowardice, Ruth stands up and speaks. Who are the heroes of our society? Are they are public leaders? Are they our professionals? Are they are public system workers? I would say not. I would say our true heroines are people like Ruth Adria who work without pay, without recognition and often without any courtesy from government for the poorest, weakest and most damaged people of our society. Thank you Ruth for showing us true courage, true ethics and true love.
